LFC : Academy Call Ups & Releases

Liverpool Football Club's academy has boasted some of the most promising up and coming talent in world football. From some of the home grown stars such as Stevie G, Carra, Phil Thompson, etc... , all the way through to the up and coming generation of players bought from the academy, which include Raheem Sterling and young Flanno, who have both burst into the scene under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers. With Liverpool's academy currently ranked amongst Europe's top five, alongside European giants Barcelona and Ajax, more is still expected from Alex Inglethorpe's youths. Whilst a good summer transfer window is crucial, Brendan may yet look at one or two of his academy prospects to give them the lift that is needed. As pre-season opened with defeat to the hands of Brondby the other day, us reds fans, including Rodgers, had the chance to look at some of the youngsters in action. Some looked bright sparks, others not so much, on this occasion. In this blog I will be giving my view on five youngsters who could get the call up in the not too distant future, a long with five who Rodgers might look to load off in the next month and a bit.

Call Ups

Jordon Ibe (18 , Winger)

Young Ibe joined the academy from Wycombe in 2011. Whilst Raheem was still an academy player back then, the mere sight of the two racing down each flank in future years made us reds faithful very excited indeed, with most of us looking at the two as Liverpool's future attacking stars. The 18 year old has got it all in the grasps of his hands. The talent, trickery, pace, and most importantly, the time to develop, a long with a great desire to do so. The only thing Rodgers has yet to provide the youngster with is playing time, with Sterling being a major influence in that. With Liverpool back in the Champions League come next month, a long with the Fa Cup and Capital One Cup to battle out for, Jordon might find the season to come as a stepping stone to impress the boss and make his way into Liverpool's very hotly contested starting line up. Then again, that is exactly how Raheem's story planned out. Now, would that be the case, or is Rodgers looking to loan the star out yet again for some much needed experience?

Joao Carlos Teixeira (21 , Attacking Midfielder)

A very similar kind of player to our young gem Suso, Teixeira arrived carrying e very strong reputation a long with him. A play maker brought from Sporting Lisbon's ever so talented academy, the 21 year old was destined to be a star at the Anfield club. A couple of nasty injuries followed, and we were yet to see the best of the Portuguese midfielder. The same could not be said the season that just passed. Following an injury free campaign, and a first team debut to show for, we have seen exactly why Joao Carlos has been touted as the next big thing to emerge from our academy. As the youngster turns 22 in January, the 2014-2015 season may be pivotal in determining where his future lies, whether it is at Anfield or elsewhere. I personally rate him a bit higher than Suso. However, when the time comes, Rodgers has to make a huge decision on the two play makers, and who ever he decides to opt for will definitely prove to be a gem under our current boss.

Conor Coady (21 , Defensive Midfielder)

13th April, 2014. Conor Coady walks out onto a sunny Wembley pitch about to aid his loanee club Sheffield United set up an Fa Cup final clash with Arsenal. Sheffield lost that game, and the blades went crashing out, though a 21 year old exited that day a very happy and proud lad. The midfielder would have never seen a season like that coming his way this time last year, and with some vital experience gained up north, a long with a couple of MOTM performances to go with it, Brendan may look at Coady as somebody to introduce slowly to the first team set up come August. With only a few appearances on the bench, and a Europa League start to show for, Conor Coady may still find it very difficult indeed, and may yet seek a permanent move away, possibly to Sheffield United. The midfielder's grit and determination cannot be doubted though, and we would be loosing a rock of a player if Rodgers' does decide to go down that route and cash in.

Jordan Rossiter (17 , Midfielder)

Moving on to some younger players now, and it does not get much more promising as this. Voted Standard Chartered's young player of the season at the age of 17 is somewhat of an achievement in itself, which has called for a lot of well deserved praise heaped on the midfielder, including God himself, Robbie Fowler, touting the youngster as 'The Next Steven Gerrard'. The 17 year old's passion for the game, a long with his 100 % determination has seen him become a regular in Alex Inglethorpe's Under 21 side. We have seen goals added to his game too, which is normally a rarity for a defensive midfielder. Rodgers has already heaped massive praise on the lad, and has recently rewarded him with a call up to the first of our pre season matches, a loss to Brondby, which the lad played very well in. Can we see young Jordan break into the limelight this season, into a somewhat a weakened Defensive Midfielder position, or is it this season far too early for the 17 year old? One thing is certain, come the 2018 World Cup in Russia, we all know someone who will very much be in the England managers thoughts going into the tournament.

Harry Wilson (17 , Winger)

Holding the record for being the youngest player to represent your national team is not something to be taken lightly, and for Harry Wilson, it is just the beginning of a wonderful career ahead for the Welshman. With the teenager enduring a tremendous campaign with the Under 18's, which included 11 goals to show for at such a young age as well, Rodgers may already start feeling the urge to introduce the pacey winger come next season. Nicknames such as 'The Next Bale' being brandished about should not be taken light heartedly. The kid has got it all in the palm of his hands, and although we might have to wait a couple of more years to see Wilson in action with the first team, his pace and trickery alone should definitely get us reds excited for what the future brings. Let us face it, you know you've got a gem on your hands when your own father places a bet on you becoming the youngest player to represent your national colours.

Releases

Suso (20 , Attacking Midfielder)

There is no doubt I will get a lot of negative feedback about this particular one, but with rumours circulating around a possible exit for the Spaniard, I felt I had to include him over here. Suso has had an unbelievable season with Almeria, scoring three goals and assisting nine. The only disruption to a positive return to Anfield this summer is the current competition for places. With the likes of Coutinho, Sterling, Stevie G, Lallana, amongst others all fighting for a place in the starting line up, not to mention the players yet to be brought in this summer window, and one or two youth players eyeing a go themselves, the 20 year old may take his chances and try a crack elsewhere, with reports coming out of a possible move to Porto. A move in the summer, is, in my opinion, the best option for both parties. The little magician is not getting any younger, and needs a boost to further his career.

Kristoffer Peterson (20 , Winger)

If you are yet to hear of the him yet, Peterson is a 19 year old winger who has been in and around the youth academy ever since joining the club in 2011. The Swedish youngster is yet to get a proper first team call up as of yet, with one of only two first team appearances coming the other day. I have watched the Swede on numerous occasions for the Under 21's, including that second half stint the other day. Even after poaching the leveller, and his first professional goal for Liverpool, I personally do not think the 20 year old is a fit for Liverpool FC. He is just not good enough. His lack of mobility up front, added by the lack of a call up causing frustration are two of the main reasons why a release from the club should be imminent.

Jack Robinson (20 , Left Back)

The Liverpool born youngster, a long with Jon Flanagan, were two huge revelations under King Kenny. Whilst young Robbo starred in a 2-2 draw at the Emirates three seasons ago, which was his first start for the club at the mere age of 17, Flanno was getting his own plaudits following his first team debut, a 3-0 grubbing of Manchester City at Anfield. Since then, the Scouse duo have taken two completely different routes in their careers, particularly since the appointment of Rodgers. Flanagan has excelled and rightfully cemented a spot with the first team. Robbo has been in and out of loan spells away from the club, and although showing signs of promise with some of his displays whilst at Wolves last season, the 20 year old returns yet again, and once again with a flurry of full backs ahead of him in the pecking order. This reason alone if why Robinson should move on this summer. This will no doubt be a stepping stone to further his career, which will provide another load out for Liverpool, who's academy seems to be growing stronger every passing day.

 Samed Yesil (20 , Striker)

Now, I will end with two of our academy youngsters that would benefit massively from a loan away to a 'lesser' team this summer. Not to be sold as of yet, but this coming season may prove to be the last chance salon for some of these players who are looking for that Brendan Rodgers phone call. First up is the German Under 21 striker Yesil. The 20 year old arrived under Dalglish with a solid reputation. His goalscoring stats at Under 21 international level were enough to excited us Liverpool fans. The German arrived and got in the flow of things down at the academy, scoring a couple of neat goals as the season went on. A massive injury suffered towards the latter stages of that same campaign dented any chances of a first team call up, with only one of those to call for since his arrival in the summer of 2012. The striker has a definite eye for goal, there is no doubting that, and with Samed finally returning from injury this summer, a loan away to boost some much needed experience could be the cherry on top the cake and could prove to be the move that starts the career of Samed Yesil. Rodgers could opt to keep him at the club, as he looks ahead to life without Luis Suarez.

Andre Wisdom (21 , Defender)

I would say the young defender, a long with Suso, have had very similar spells at the club since Rodgers came in. Both burst into the starting line up in the beginning of the Northern Irishman's reign, and enjoyed quite a long stint there too. That followed by a couple of injured players resurfacing, and the duo found themselves back on the fringes of the squad, as Brendan's first season ended. The summer saw a couple of new faces brought in, and Rodgers opted for loan deals for the duo, and here are we are at the present day, with the two returning to Melwood ready as ever to fight for their respective places again. Wisdom has shown he has got all the traits to be a world class defender for years to come. We have seen the youngsters leadership qualities too, with the England Under 20 captaincy been handed on to him recently. The 21 year old endured a bright season at Derby and can bring a lot of what he learnt there back to Liverpool. The defender is not ready to be a started for Liverpool, in my opinion, and whether he will be in the upcoming years is entirely up to the individual and his personal performances. Another loan out seems to be on the cards, with West Brom growing fond of the young Wisdom. Will he return next summer a better player and follow along the footsteps of young Flanno, amongst others? This pre-season will be a crucial one for the youngster as he looks to progress.

The list of possible call ups could go on and on, with the likes of Brad Smith, Lloyd Jones, Jack Dunn, and others all being omitted from today's blog. I think five is enough for now. Whilst I was struggling to find players to include in my 'releases' list, it hit me just how strong Liverpool's academy is at the present day, and has been for many years. The future is bright for Inglethorpe's young guns, as they all look to impress in pre-season. With an away match at Preston to come this afternoon, this might prove to be the last chance for some of these youngsters to show why they deserve to be in Rodgers' plans for the upcoming league campaign. Rodgers has got money to spend, and whilst there are plenty more signings to come before the end of August, a long glance at the academy must be on the boss's mind. Last year, it was young Raheem and 'Flanni Alves'. Who's year will it be this time round?

To end this blog, I will list all the youngsters who have been given a call up with Brendan Rodgers' 33 man squad to tour the US in the next couple of weeks ;

Conor Coady (21 , Defensive Midfielder)

Suso (20 , Attacking Midfielder)

Jon Flanagan (21 , Defender)

Jordon Ibe (18 , Winger)

Tiago Ilori (21 , Centre Back)

Adam Phillips (16 , Central Midfielder)

Daniel Ward (21 , Goalkeeper)

Andre Wisdom (20 , Defender)

LFC : Five Main Reasons Liverpool should not sell Lucas Leiva

Lucas Leiva, the ever optimistic defensive midfielder. To think where Brazil could have progressed to in the World Cup if they had opted to pick the 27 year old in their 23 man squad. Not 7-1 down to the Germans, that is for sure. The arrival of Emre Can, who could play at DM, added to that the love Rodgers has for Joe Allen has got us Liverpool fans wondering ; What is next for Lucas Leiva? One of the most underrated player in the Premier League, Lucas has given all for the club ever since Rafa signed him from Gremio in 2007.The amount of hard graft he pulls out in most matches he stars in makes me wonder where Liverpool would have finished in one or two of those injury stricken seasons Lucas previously underwent. Here are my reasons as to why Brendan must think twice before selling the Brazilian.

1. Emre Can is not his replacement, YET.

Apart from the piles of praise heaped on our new signing Emre Can by the likes of ex reds Didi Hamann and Sami Hyppia, amongst others, Can is still only 20, and with no international call ups to show for as of yet, bringing him in as an immediate replacement for Lucas would be a very wrong thing to do. The German Under 21 has already been put under immense pressure with the very iconic number 23 shirt been given to him, which was previously worn by Kop idol Carragher. Emre Can has heaps of potential and a bright future ahead of him, let us make that point clear, and at just 20, if nurtured well by Rodgers, will prove to be a bargain buy at 10 million pounds.

2. He adds experience.

Lucas Leiva is turning 28 next January, and while it will probably be the window we might get the most money from for him, having a defensive midfielder with that amount of experience is crucial for every title winning side. Manchester City have it with Yaya Toure, and the man alone was one of the main reasons the City side pipped us to the title last season. Captain Fantastic did an amazing job when put there as cover in the latter stages of the previous campaign, and although a returning stint in the position is expected, Rodgers is looking to reduce the skipper's playing time, indicating a possible 30 game mark as to the 50 he endured the past campaign. This will undoubtedly enhance Stevie's performances and keep him in mint condition. While Emre Can grows and learns the ropes at Liverpool, Lucas could be the one to put an arm around the German's shoulder and show him the path forward. He can learn a lot from the man who played for his country on 24 occasions.

3. The Little Money We Would Get For Him Is Not Worth The Loss.

If Lucas was to leave the club this summer, Italy would be the most likely destination for the Brazilian. Napoli and Inter have both shown interest, with ex Red boss Rafa Benitez keen on a reunion with the player he almost seemed to give up on at his time on the Anfield armchair. The price being brandished about is the 5-10 million mark, and with the American owners in no dire need of extra cash right now, chequeing in on Lucas for that petty sum would be a crazy thing to do. Of course, that is the maximum anybody would pay for a 27 year old defensive midfielder nowadays, but personally, I would sell Joe Allen for a similar price over Lucas Leiva in a heartbeat, rather than losing our midfield anchorman.

4. Lucas Leiva is Liverpool's Number One Fan.

Whether he is raring his side on from his Twitter account whilst on the sidelines, or getting his weekly yellow card after a committed tackle or two, every body loves the Brazilian, what ever club you support. His continuous injury problems saddens us Liverpool faithful, and there was not a worse sight than watching on as Lucas limped off on the opening day of the 2012-2013 campaign, away to West Brom. Lucas Leiva has always shown his full support to the cause at Liverpool, even when on the brink of an exit under Rafa a couple of years back. A move away just would not be the same, it won't feel right. There is no doubt the Brazilian has given his all every time he has stepped on that pitch for Liverpool, and that is why he is one of our strongest supporters.

5. THIS !!

Therefore, if I had to pick between keeping Lucas Leiva or Joe Allen, there would be no hint of hesitation from my side. Lucas Leiva. Yet it seems the latter is going to prove to come out the better as Brendan looks almost certain to offload the Brazilian this summer. His Twitter biography reads 'Liverpool player' no more, and after unfollowing the official Liverpool account on it also, a move to Italy seems imminent. My opinion stays the same though ; Brendan should not cash in on the midfielder, for whatever reason, and as I previously stated in my points above, selling Lucas would be a huge mistake, unless replaced like for like.

LFC : Who's in and Who's Out Summer 2014 (Updated)

As we reach midway point of a hectic transfer window, an update on who could yet enter or exit the club is what is needed. Rodgers' men have been linked with a good hundred players since my last transfer blog in June. With professionals being linked from all around the world, Rodgers must sit at his manager's desk at Melwood, newspaper in hand, laughing his head off at some of the speculations mentioned. (Especially looking at some of these players' names linked). Rodgers has recruited three players since the opening day on June the 1st, with two or three more deals looking very close, possibly hours to conclusions. A blog on our transfer business so far is for another day though, so here is to the next month and a half, and to who Liverpool could still bring in to his Champions League squad, including a few who could be on the way out.

In:

Goalkeeper:

With Mignolet returning from World Cup duty this week, we might yet see the return of Pepe Reina in a red shirt as head to Denmark for a Pre Season friendly against Brondby on Wednesday the 16th. Who would have ever thought we will see that again? Reina has made it no secret of his desire to leave the club, as talks with Napoli for the 30 year old seem to be opening and closing every passing day. With that said, Rodgers is on the lookout for a back up to Mignolet, someone to really push the Belgian for a starting place, which will no doubt enhance the keepers personal performances as well.

Keylor Navas (27, Goalkeeper, Levante)

If you would have approached me pre-World Cup and asked me about a Costa Rican goalkeeper by the name of Keylor Navas being linked with us, I would have probably laughed at you and dismissed the rumour immediately. A mere couple of weeks later, and the 27 year old has been touted amongst the top performers at the World Cup gone by, which has brought the attention of Brendan. From his penalty heroics against Greece, to some scintillating performances to guide Costa Rica to a World Cup quarter final for the first time in their history, Keylor has emerged out of nowhere and has been filling a lot of the headlines. With Arsenal hot on the keeper's heels as well, Rodgers as to think fast if he is to bid for the star, who in my opinion, would make a brilliant back up to our current number 1.

Guillermo Ochoa (28, Goalkeeper, Free Agent)

Similar to Navas, Guillermo Ochoa was somewhat of an unknown keeper before this summer's World Cup. A few links here and there, but hardly anything to write home about. A couple of unbelievable performances in Brazil later, including that MOTM display against the hosts has brought interest from some of the top clubs around Europe. Not only that, but the big haired Mexican is also available on a free transfer after being released by French club Ajaccio, which has puzzled me as to why nobody has snatched the 28 year old up as of yet. A possible move to Barcelona was being talked about in the past month, but the Catalans opted for two other keepers, which has brought Liverpool right in front of the pecking order for the Mexican. And with such a talented goalkeeper available for nought, what is there to really lose?

Defender:

As stated in my previous blog, Liverpool have outscored pretty much every team they faced in the last campaign, which has left our defence looking very shaky indeed, with Liverpool conceding far too many goals for a team in hot pursuit of the league title. One or two solid world class defenders coming in where a must for the manager's transfer list, and with Liverpool agreeing deals for so many attacking mid fielders in the window so far, me amongst many have questioned why we are yet to bring in a defender, when we all know our defence was one of our biggest downfalls last season.

Raphael Varane (21, Centre Back, Real Madrid

Starting off with a more 'wishful transfer' than a player linked, Varane has not been in any kind of transfer talk as of yet, which is exactly why Rodgers should sneak in with a cheeky bid for the defender, in my opinion. At just 21, Varane has already been talked about as one of the best defenders in the world at the moment. Keeping Spanish favourite Sergio Ramos out of the Madrid team is never an easy job for any defender, but the Frenchman has done just that, and that is exactly what Liverpool need at the moment, a solid centre back who is ready to lead the reds from the back for years to come. And don't you worry, the lad is not planning on retiring any time soon. A 30 million clause being touted in the press would be a talking point for Brendan and his staff to ponder, but I say pay it, because the Frenchman is definitely worth every penny. Whether he will leave Madrid, I do not think so, but with a defender like Varane in the squad, our push for the title would be made a lot stronger.

Alberto Moreno (22, Left Back, Sevilla)

No, we still haven't bought Alberto Moreno. With me reporting we are close to agreeing a deal a month or so ago, all I can say is, Moreno is still a wanted man by the reds, with a decent left back still on Rodgers' summer shopping list. Reds midfielder Luis Alberto has not made it any easier for us either, posting pictures of the two in Liverpool for Luis' wedding, a long with a picture of the duo enjoying Moreno's birthday. Others were convinced a bit easier, stating that Moreno's red pants worn at Alberto's wedding were enough to convince them a move to Liverpool is close. Talks have started, stopped and stalled since day one, typical of Liverpool FC. A price in the range of 20-25 million will seal it, but Rodgers will try to salvage every cent of what he prices the Spaniard at, even it means dragging the deal on till August time.

Dejan Lovren (25, Centre Back, Southampton)

If there ever was a player who made it clear they wanted a move to a particular club, it is Dejan Lovren. With the mass exodus at Southampton already taking three casualties, the Croatian looks certain to be the fourth, and Liverpool looks the most likely destination for the 25 year old, even if it would mean doing an 'Odemwingie' and appearing at the club himself. "The last time I played at Anfield, I got chills when I heard 'Youll Never Walk Alone'. I'd like to listen to it all the time. My head is already at Liverpool." If that indicates anything, it is that the Croatian is dying for a move to Merseyside, but if I look at what the Saints want for him, which is around 25-30 million, I say to myself, he really is not worth all that money.

Steven Caulker (22, Defender, Cardiff)

The ex Spurs man has had a brilliant season with relegated Cardiff, which included a place in the Premier League team of the year. From being a bench player for Spurs to one of the stand out defensive players in the league, the permanent move to Wales was a definite step forward made by the centre back. Much like Lovren, Caulker has made it no secret of his desire to join the reds. Maybe not as out as there as the previous, the 22 year old is in dire need of a move following his club's fall to the Championship. Personally, I do not think the Englishman fits the bill at Anfield, but with Tottenham hot on our heels and keen on a reunion after just a year of releasing him, Rodgers has to think well about who to bring in at the heart of Liverpool's 'weak' defence.

Central Midfielder:

Rodgers is pretty much keen on strengthening all the main positions this summer, but instead of a low-down of each little area of the field, I am going to give a general view of the four main positions and what is needed in each one. Now, with the likes of Coutinho, Henderson, Gerrard and Lallana all pushing for a place in that starting line up for the opening fixture, it is hard to believe Rodgers is still keen on adding some more new faces in the centre of midfield. The attacking midfield area looks strong, but the DM role looks a worry. New recruit Emre Can is a fit for that role, although with little experience to show for, do we put all our faith in our new number 23 to deliver week in, week out?

Yaya Toure (31, Central Midfielder, Manchester City)

Yet another one of my 'wishful transfers' on the list, rather than a solid target. One thing is certain, I, personally, will never question another one of Ian Ayre's transfer mishaps if we manage to pull off the capture of Yaya. The Ivorian powerhouse hasn't hidden his desire to leave Manchester, with his ongoing rants and attacks on the club coming in thick and fast these past months. The 31 year old is looking for a way out, and with his brother already at Liverpool, followed by past quotes about Liverpool being the hardest team he has ever faced, stranger things have happened than Liverpool signing Yaya Toure from City this summer. He most definitely will not come cheap though, and his wage demands may reach sky high. Will Rodgers risk it for a player who would transform Liverpool into definite title contenders next season?

Winger/Striker:

As newspapers across the UK report the possibility of as much as three strikers turning up at Melwood by the week commencing next, (Where they will all fit I do not know), Rodgers does not seem to be taking his time spending Luis Suarez's money. The Northern Irishman has acted quickly, and although none of these players are 100 % confirmed as of yet, deals for the trio look at an advanced stage and look to be gathering pace, with reliable sources behind each one. Ricky Lambert is the only striker in the bag so far at 4 million pounds, but looks certain to be joined by a couple more as the window nears midway stage.

Lazar Markovic (20, Winger/Striker, Benfica)

We'll start off with the long haired youngster, Markovic. Let's face it, nobody really knew much about the Serb prior to him being linked with us this summer. A few YouTube videos here and there made us fans high in anticipation of the potential talent shown by the lad. Then again, YouTube made Oussama Assaidi look like Cristiano Ronaldo. Lazar Markovic to Liverpool is now probably at a 90 % completion stage, with the 20 year old flying to Merseyside any day now. The only thing I can comment on regarding this transfer is, paying 25 million for an unproven 'talent' is a massive risk, and one that does not seem to faze Rodgers as he prepares to welcome the player. Why we could not pay a little bit more for a proven goalscorer in Alexis Sanchez, one who lit the World Cup on fire is something to ask the people behind the scenes about. Added to that the comments by a few stating the lazy side of Markovic. The striker has a lot to do to convince me, amongst others, that he is one of the replacements for our ex talisman.

Divock Origi (19, Striker, Lille)

Thank God for Cristian Benteke, Origi must be waking up thinking every passing day since the start of the World Cup. Following Benteke's omission from the Belgian squad through injury, and the call up of young Origi, who was unknown to many before, we have seen a lot to strike us with promise for the pacey front man. Rodgers looks set to conclude a 9 million deal for the Belgian by next week, after the striker's arrival at Melwood recently for talks. He will then be loaned back to Lille for the 2014-2015 season, which is a brilliant decision made and one that will benefit both parties. Origi may find it hard to find a starting place at Liverpool this season, but another year as Lille's star man, which will enhance his experience. will see the 19 year old return to Anfield raring to go for the campaign to come, hopefully as League champions. There is no doubt Divock Origi is one of the brightest signings to come in this summer, one who I cannot wait to see don a Liverpool shirt.

Wilfried Bony (25, Striker, Swansea)

If I had written this blog a couple of days ago, Bony would be nowhere to be seen. The Ivorian has suddenly burst into the limelight, with reports coming in of a possible 20-25 million deal to be struck, and Bony expected to arrive in Liverpool within days. I, amongst many a Liverpool fan were not expecting this, and I personally have to say that I do not want to see this deal go through. 25 million for a player who played 'good' for a mid table team is not what Liverpool should be opting for as title contenders. We have seen that recently with the likes of Carroll, Downing, etc..., who all seem to play well for average teams, but then fail at the big stage. I might be proven wrong of course, I am just acting on what is on my mind. You cannot deny Wilfried's eye for a goal or two though, and has showed a good goalscoring stint since joining the Swans last year.

Mario Balotelli (23, Striker, Milan)

Now, why not make it a trio of 'wishful transfers'. The exit of an enigma like Suarez could be replaced by another one right away, and it does not come any crazier than the 'Why Always Me' man himself. The Italian doesn't seem to be fazed about who he will be playing for come August, as pictures were snapped of him enjoying a cigarette on his balcony while on holiday. With Milan's downfall meaning no Champions League yet again for the Rossoneri, Balo is looking for an exit strategy. His agent has stated his client's desire to return to the Premier League, and as talks between him and Arsenal failing, (not to forget their recent capture of Sanchez), where better to further your career than under Rodgers' grasp? Mario Balotelli could become a changed man under Brendan, but his continuous bad habits, and his lack of enthusiasm to want to change has put me off slightly of late. Super Mario is a talent, undoubtedly, and if the 23 year old decides he finally wants to change, Liverpool would have a very good signing to partner Sturridge up front.

Out:

Luis Suarez (Sell)

Might as well get it out of the way as soon as possible. Luis Suarez will be a Barcelona player as from August 2014, and Liverpool have to prepare for a season without their star man. We gave him chance after chance, but after his latest biting scandal, Rodgers has put his foot down and stated that enough was enough. 75 million looks the mark way, when we all know we could have gotten well above 100, bar the Uruguayan's latest fiasco. The deal looked to be stalling of late, while Sanchez completed his move the other way to Arsenal. A deal was confirmed yesterday though, and now we are left to watch at how Rodgers and his men spend the 75 million. He amazed us with his skill and got us on our knees kissing our wrists with some of his goals. It is just a massive pity the exact nature of Suarez's exit, one of Liverpool's greatest ever strikers.

Iago Aspas (Sell)

There was Fernando Torres, and then there was Iago Aspas. Both strutted the number 9 shirt for Liverpool, two very different outcomes. From his brace against Oldham to his amazing corner taking ability, I am scratching my head as to why we want to sell the forward. Jokes aside, Iago Aspas has been a major flop since his 7.7 million move from Celta Vigo a year ago. With only two competitive goals to show for, followed by a couple of very below par performances, Rodgers is ready to axe the Spaniard's short stay on Merseyside already, with a move to Sevilla looking the most likely destination. Who should the number 9 shirt be moved on to? Not even a single doubt, Daniel Sturridge. One thing is certain, Danny has a lot to prove is he to take the number 9 mantel off the one and only Iago Aspas. (I'm sorry I had to).

Lucas Leiva (Sell)

Each time I open my browser and see the Brazilian linked with another club, I keep asking why. Lucas has been one of Liverpool's strongest performers in previous seasons. Massively underrated, the Brazilian is a rock in that Defensive Midfielder role and is somebody, who in my opinion, should not be sold this summer. My pleads look to be without prevail though, as the 27 year old has recently removed the 'Liverpool player' quoting from his Twitter page, and has also unfollowed the official page, sparking rumours that an exit is imminent. We will miss Lucas, no doubt, with his famous chant becoming a fans favourite, as was the man himself.

Pepe Reina (Sell)

As of two weeks time, Pepe Reina could be on his way to the US with the Liverpool squad, and could be set to put on that new Liverpool goalkeeping jersey once again. Who would have thought that a couple of months back? Yes, the Spaniard is still a Liverpool player, with a slight possibility of him remaining one too. Talks with Napoli have stopped and started with no conclusion. The reality is, nobody looks keen on taking a punt on Pep, which could see him return as Liverpool number 2. A transfer away is still what is on both party's minds though, but having a goalkeeper like Reina as competition to Mignolet could never be a bad thing. Cashing in is first priority for Liverpool, and talks between the club and Rafa's Napoli could stretch till late August.

Daniel Agger (Sell)

Daniel Agger's love for Liverpool FC has never been questioned. From his 'YNWA' knuckle tattoo to his continuous passion shown on the pitch, 'Dagger' has been a faithful servant of the club ever since his arrival in 2006. The 18 million pound arrival of Sakho last summer, added to it the possible future defensive reinforcements, selling the Dane and clearing yet another high wage bill could be on the cards this summer. Agger has always stated his desire to stay at the club, even when big guns such as Barcelona and Man City came calling with high bids. Now though, the Dane himself might look for a way out of the club as competition for places hardens. I would love to see Liverpool keep the 29 year old, a player who has been a rock for us every time he put on the number 5 shirt.

Fabio Borini (Sell)

Fabio Borini had an up and down season of sorts last time out. The first half was all about biding his time under Sunderland's then boss Paolo Di Canio. The second half of the campaign was a bright spark for Fabio as he revelled under the new man on Tyneside Gus Poyet. Most noted for his opening goal against rivals Newcastle, amongst others, it is no wonder the Black Cats want to make a permanent move for the 23 year old. His time at Anfield has been marred by injury so far, and whether the Italian will return oozing confidence following his loan spell remains to be seen. Rodgers is ready to observe the forward as pre season nears kick off. With all the attacking options set to arrive in Liverpool in the next couple of weeks, added to the strikers we already have, Borini might find it an uphill battle to break into Brendan's first 11.

Sebastian Coates (Sell)

Who? I thought the only Uruguayan we had left the club? No, Seba Coates is still very much a Liverpool player. The long term injury he suffered last campaign was a blow for the man who wanted to prove himself to the doubters. Now, with his national compatriot gone, Coates is even more likely to leave the club than ever before. I must admit to being very optimistic when the Copa America young player of the tournament joined Kenny's army back in 2011. He looked to have been the exact fit for Liverpool ; tall and commanding. Coates never really got a spurt with the first team. Whether it was through injury, or through one or two lacklustre defensive displays (most notably that horror show against Oldham in the cup), my optimism keeps fading away as each season passes. Would a loan spell away be what finally kick starts the Uruguayan's career? Will he be given a final chance by Rodgers, and could he prove us all wrong? The 23 year old is finally back from injury, and a good pre season is pivotal for the forgotten man.

Jon Flanagan (Loan)

As I stated in the original blog a month ago, (which some didn't bother noticing), the word in bold next to young Flanno's name is LOAN. Liverpool FC would be very mad indeed if they were to sell this lad, who has had an unbelievable season. Flanno has been taking massive strides under Rodgers, and at the age of just 21, the 'young Cafu' is destined for even bigger things in the future. Brendan is on the lookout for a new left back this summer, and with Jose Enrique returning from injury and ready to fight for that position again, Flanagan may find it very hard to retain his place this time round, and a one year loan out to a 'lesser' team is exactly what Brendan should give Flanno. Liverpool are not going to spend 20 million on a left back and then leave him on the bench, that is for sure. Some may argue my case and tell me that Flanagan can easily fit in at right back at the cost of misfiring Glen Johnson. That is true, but I do not think Rodgers has given up on Johnson just yet, and may look to loan the promising full back this summer.

This list can go on and on, but I do not want to waste any more of your time. Other possible outgoings include Jones, Johnson and Assaidi, amongst others. Now, this final part of the blog may anger a couple of readers amongst you, and here is where I question Liverpool's transfer policy and how we are going about our business so far. Adam Lallana, brilliant signing. Rickie Lambert, cheap, can get you a goal or two out of nowhere. Emre Can, young, promising. These are all promising signings, but I ask myself, where is the 'world class' calibre of player needed to compete in the Champions League? We seem to be selling our best players, including Suarez and Lucas, and not really replacing them like for like, AS OF YET. Yes, Lazar Markovic looks a real talent, so does young Origi, but with a combined fee of 35 million, could we not sign one big player instead? The lure of a club such as Liverpool should not be a problem, and there is where I question Ian Ayre's transfer dealings. Liverpool look set to pay a combined fee of 50 million for Markovic and Wilfried Bony. Would you take a 50 million valued player like Falcao or James Rodriguez instead of the duo? I definitely would. Do not take me wrong, I will support Rodgers in whatever he decides to do, to the full extent. The man has done a near impossible job as manager so far, bringing us an eagerly awaited return to the CL. Opinions are opinions, and I would just like to get mine out of the way. This will be my final transfer blog until December. Hopefully we will be seeing a couple of these names listed above happily walking into Melwood in the near future, ready to join Brendan's army.

LFC: Luis Suarez : The Latest Saga

Yet another Luis Suarez saga for Brendan to deal with. From racism rows to the Vampire Diaries, Suarez has always provided us with some form of entertainment. Mostly good, yes, but the ugly part of it has emerged far too many times. For a club the size of Liverpool's, it could prove to be one time too many for the Uruguayan. Brendan Rodgers and his men have an extremely crucial season ahead. With Champions League football awaiting, a strong summer in the transfer window is pivotal. One of the main questions remaining on everyone's minds at the present moment being ; Will Little Luis be part of those plans? Will we cash in while we still can for a player who seems to never learn from his past endeavours? This blog will explain why the latter could prove to be the best out of the two options.

The Latest Chapter.

June the 24th, 2014. Uruguay are playing Italy in a World Cup Group Stage decider. Luis Suarez and Italy defender Chiellini are both laying on the floor with pain around the penalty area. Highlights show the little Uruguayan biting the shoulder of Chiellini, with many a Liverpool fan watching the match and thinking "Oh no you've only gone and done it again". Half-hearted celebrations followed by a worried look by Suarez at full time all but showed it. He knew what was coming and what he was to expect in the following days. Oh, to be a fly-on-the-wall in Brendan Rodgers' sitting room at that moment. Whatever the 27 year old or his fellow Uruguayan team mates denied in the aftermath, the footage was clear, he bit Giorgio Chiellini. A 'somewhat' harsh worldwide ban of four months followed, and we find ourselves here again, with an enigma of a player. He has showed he can be the world's best with a football in his feet, but these incidents seem to never go away.

The Spanish Battle.

His latest biting scandal pushed to one side, it seems as though Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are still keen on taking a punt on the forward, with both teams looking to battle it out as we continue into the summer period. This is the main reason why, in my opinion, we should cash in on Luis. With an 80 million marker being brandished about by newspapers and reporters alike, cashing in may be one of the best decisions made by Liverpool in years. The mere thought of what Brendan and his team can build with the 80 million in question (not to mention the 30 million given to him by the owners added to that), makes my mouth water at the possibility of the potential that can be brought in. Though recent reports claim that Liverpool and the Spaniards are 20 million apart in valuation of the player, a price will eventually be met, and remember this... Rodgers is not a man to throw in the towel too easily. He will demand every penny of what he thinks Suarez is worth, and won't rest until he has the cash in his grasps.

Next Season's New Shape Up Without Suarez.

With Suarez gone, there is no doubt that world class reinforcements are needed to replace him. Rodgers cannot afford to 'do a Spurs', which involves selling your best player and buying a couple of average players with the money. The current transfer kitty being talked about is around the 115-120 million mark, and here is my opinion on where we should spend it ;

James Rodriguez - (Attacking Midfielder , Monaco) - 40 million
Raphael Varane - (Centre Back , Real Madrid) - 30 million
Alberto Moreno - (Left Back , Sevilla) - 20 million
Xherdan Shaqiri - (Winger , Bayern Munich) - 15 million
Alexis Sanchez - (Winger/Forward , Barcelona) - Part of Suarez deal
A decent Right Winger - 9 million
Micah Richards - (Right Back , Manchester City) - 6 million
Guillermo Ochoa - (Goalkeeper , Ajaccio) - Free Transfer

Here is how we could line up with the new rebuilt Liverpool, come August ;

Mignolet

Johnson                                      Varane                              Skrtel                            Moreno

Gerrard

                                                    Coutinho                          Rodriguez

                          Sanchez                                    Sturridge                         Shaqiri

Subs: Ochoa, Sakho, Richards, Henderson, Lucas, Lallana, Sterling

Now, I may be a little over enthusiastic with some of the players, but if you add up the prices, and axe Suarez you have a very legit listing. I do not know about the rest of you, but that line up I listed above screams Premier League contenders, (maybe even a hit at the Champions League too). This is exactly why selling Luis Suarez may be what is best to move the club forward. As long as the right players are bought as replacements, I certainly look at that possible future line up and say to myself, 'Liverpool are definitely moving in the right direction this way'.

Alexis Sanchez.

While journalists around the world are reporting an 80 million deal to be struck between the teams, others think a possible 50 million + player deal could be on the horizon, with World Cup star Alexis Sanchez being touted about. I have been saying this ever since I have heard these rumours; Bringing in Alexis as part of a player + cash deal would be far, far better than accepting just the cash. With Arsenal looking interested too, luring Sanchez to Anfield could all depend on what we decide to do with Luis Suarez. One thing is definite, Alexis Sanchez is a very gifted talent, and at just 25 years old, still has the world at his feet. Starting with a couple of outstanding performances with Chile at this summers World Cup, added to it the possibility of progressing his career even further under Rodgers, I amongst many are pleading for Alexis' signature, and for the number 7 shirt to be worn by the Chilean come next season.

"No player ever comes before the club".

Leaving money matters aside, we must look at Liverpool FC as a club, an establishment, which is another reason the Uruguayan should end his time at the club. Liverpool have always stressed their point about 'Club Over Player', and about how a club as big as Liverpool cannot be played about by anyone, no matter their abilities on the pitch. The racism row passed, Liverpool FC defended him, all was forgiven. The Ivanovic biting scandal passed, Liverpool batted an eye and once again all was forgiven. This time is different though, and with the incident list growing as the seasons pass by, a club like Liverpool should finally put their foot down, and Rodgers should finally find the courage to sell his talisman. A massive pity for a player who lifted the club on so many occasions in the past. It is time to move on, and that is exactly what the owners, a long with Brendan and Ian Ayre are planning on doing in the near future.

There is only one Luis Suarez !

From his hat tricks against Norwich, to his comical 'dive' celebration against rivals Everton, you cannot hide one fact and that is , we all love 'El Pistolero'. He has been an idol for me personally, and the departure of the Uruguayan will sadden me deeply, especially because of the reasons behind it. He has made us all smile with his performances, and his character to add to it makes Suarez a unique player, and whether it is Barcelona or Real Madrid or any other club in the world, the pitch will be lit on fire whenever Luis graces it with his presence. You never know, he might just stay at Liverpool after all. The same was said last summer about a possible exit for the striker, with speculation coming in left, right and centre. He stayed that time. This time though, it keeps looking likelier every single passing day. Stranger things have happened of course, but in my opinion, the 2-1 win against Newcastle in May was the last we have seen of the star.

I will conclude this blog with my 5 favourite goals scored by El Pistolero. Enjoy ;
